Data contribution

How to

Contribute

How can you contribute metadata to the Marine SoundLib?

The Marine SoundLib welcomes metadata of deployments and detected sound events, also referred to as detections, for various purposes:

  • Research data
  • Monitoring soundscapes, and
  • Developing machine learning tools.

To be able to contribute you must have a MarinePass account and be registered as SoundLib contributor. Be aware that sound events added to the SoundLib should be openly available under Creative Commons (CC) licences: CC BY, CC BY-NC or CCO. However, a deployment and its raw data can be licenced differently than sound events of a deployment. If you are interested in contributing to the Marine SoundLib, contact passiveacoustics@vliz.be to register. Please specify in your email what you would like to contribute.

To contribute sound files as external user (user outside of VLIZ), please contact passiveacoustics@vliz.be to receive further instructions.

Every user can view the metadata of all entries. Click on the button in the table row of an entry to view its metadata.

Every user can create new entries. To create a new entry, click the button above the table. Make sure that you don't duplicate entries. Only add an entry, when you cannot find it in the respective table. If you require to upload multiple entries, contact us to request access to the SoundLib SDK.

A deployment must be linked to an IMIS dataset. If you don't have an IMIS dataset yet, create a new one using the dataset submit form. Your request will be reviewed by the VLIZ Marine Data Center.

SoundLib admins can edit, duplicate or delete all entries. Every user can edit, duplicate or delete an own entry. To edit an entry, click the button in the table row of your entry. To duplicate an entry, click the button, and to delete an entry, click the button in the table row of your entry.
